Legal Installation Regulations (in the EU):
- Since April 1, 2013, daytime running lights (DRL) are also allowed on motorcycles. The Essen Institute for Motorcycle Safety (IfZ) points out that only daytime running lights that are ECE tested and approved should be installed. The marking for daytime running lights is "RL". The light color is white. According to IfZ, either one or two DRLs are permitted.
- The daytime running light may be mounted centrally above or below the main headlight as well as laterally. In the case of a lateral installation, the edge of the luminous area of the DRL must not extend more than 25 centimeters from the vehicle center.
- If two daytime running lights are used, they must be arranged symmetrically to the vehicle center, and the distance between the luminous areas must not exceed 42 centimeters. This maximum distance does not apply if the daytime running light is integrated into other front lights or is symmetrically arranged within the vehicle silhouette. If the distance is less than 40 millimeters from a directional indicator, special regulations must be observed (visibility of the turn signal).
- In principle, daytime running lights must be mounted at least 25 centimeters to a maximum of 1.50 meters above the ground and must shine horizontally forward. They may swivel with the steering.
- The daytime running light must automatically turn on when the engine is running. It must automatically turn off when the "driving light" (main headlight low beam) is turned on. This does not apply to the operation of the high beam flasher. According to the Institute for Motorcycle Safety, this could be realized through a separate toggle switch for low beam and DRL.
- Even when the DRL is on, the tail light must be on. The license plate illumination can, but does not have to be, turned on. The installation does not need to be approved by an inspection organization and entered into the vehicle documents. However, the installation must be carried out properly to avoid difficulties during the next main inspection.
- Connection WITH existing light switch:
The prerequisite for the operation of the daytime running light (DRL) is a manually switched low beam (light switch), otherwise, the function of the DRL would be nullified.
According to the road traffic regulations, the DRL must be connected so that it turns off when the main headlight is turned on.
(Exception: operation of the high beam flasher). The rear tail light must always be on, i.e., if necessary, connect to ignition plus. - Connection WITHOUT existing light switch:
The daytime running light can also be used on vehicles without a light switch. For this, the following components are required, for example:
50220000670 Highsider switch via light sensor for daytime running light E-BOX TYPE 1 (automatically switches between low beam and daytime running light via light sensor)

Sehr zufrieden!
Top!
