repair manual Yamaha XT 660 R/X/Z Tenere, MT-03
The Yamaha motorbikes presented in this book represent a minimalistic engine concept that is seldom seen these days: single-cylinder 4-stroke. The forerunners of this model range were the legendary Yamaha single-cylinder bikes of the 1970s and 1980s, the XT (off-road) and SR (road) 500 models. 1983 then saw the arrival of the 600 cc 4-valve touring enduro bike with a 28-litre tank, the XT 600 Ténéré, soon followed by the standard XT 600 and the sports version SRX 600. Then, in 1991, the first XTZ 660 and the road-eating SZR with water cooling came onto the market.
The turn of the century saw little happening with the range until customers started longing for a return to the roots. In 2004, Yamaha reacted to this by bringing out a new generation of models. Their engines are based on the 660 cc XTR engine, but are now aspirated by an injection system. The classic high-equipment variant Ténéré was retained and superseded by the new flagship in 2009. Today’s road model is called MT-03 and has been carrying the flag for the single-cylinder road bike since 2006. Long may she run.
This book offers all the information that keen motorbike riders need for maintaining and repairing a Yamaha XT 660 or MT-03. One thing that is particularly useful is the selection of coloured wiring diagrams.
