A pilgrim on the motorbike saddle
Is life a state of inertia or change? According to Holger Janke, it’s change. He takes a five-week break and sets out on his enduro bike to follow the historical Way of St. James from Hamburg via Switzerland to Santiago de Compostela and then along an alternative route through France back home.
During this 7,000 km journey, he experiences the whole spectrum of motorbike riding and of the pilgrimage itself. Travelling solitary roads, he crosses stately mountain regions, encounters picturesque villages, spends nights in cosy “refugios”, and gets to know not only a whole range of interesting people but also himself.
This book is not just about biking and making pilgrimages. It’s about life. About our everyday existence, our thoughts, our wishes and desires, but also about our fears and anxieties. It’s an on-the-road book for bike enthusiasts, a travel journal for fans of the Way of St. James and also an accompaniment for – almost – every situation in life.
